The Nicholson is located at 14-20 Nicholson Street, Coburg and has been developed on the site of the former East Coburg tram depot. To allow for the proposed development, the site was rezoned from Industrial 3 to Business 2 under a Section 20 (4) amendment to the Moreland Planning Scheme; gazettal occurred on 22 December 2009.
A planning permit for a nine storey, 199 dwelling development, with several ground floor retail tenancies was approved by the Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD) on 4 March 2010.
The development of the site has been subject of an Environmental Audit process in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act (1970).В A Statement of Environmental Audit has been received which allows the site to be occupied as a mixed use retail and residential development.
